More misreporting

Well, it appears the New York Times ran this pretty bad Reuters report on the Assault Weapons Ban yesterday. Don't know why I missed it, but alas I did.
The ban on such weapons as Uzis and AK-47s will expire at midnight next Monday unless Congress votes to renew it.
There really isn't anything quite as galling to me as outright lies by the media. There's simply no way Reuters can justify this sentence. Theres no nuance or spin or misunderstanding that can justify what is a wholly 100% false statement. The Assault Weapons Ban DOES NOT impact Uzi's or AK-47s.

Got it? Good.

Does anyone know if Reuters has a reporting ombudsman we can contact? If not, they should.

``It is a health-care crisis and it is an incredibly costly health-care crisis,'' said Amy Sisley, an emergency room doctor at the University of Maryland Medical Center, speaking on behalf of Physicians for Social Responsibility.

She said 90 percent of spinal cord injuries in the United States are caused by gunshot wounds and noted that $1.8 billion a year is spent on spinal cord injuries.
90%!?!?!?!?!?

I don't have any facts or figures in front of me on this, but this claim seems pretty dubious on its face. Anyone have any better information???
