Maybe They Ought To Do Better Research

Its cool and stuff that Metal Storm, Inc is developing a super gun.

Next month a new high-explosive munition will be fired in Singapore and then tested again by the U.S. Army, heralding what may be a sea change in weaponry: a gun that can fire 240,000 rounds per minute.

That's compared to 60 rounds per minute in a standard military machine gun.

But, the last time I picked up an MP5 I was able to empty the 30 round magazine in all of 2-3 seconds. Seems to me that is slightly more substantial rate of fire than the AP press release. Maybe they are talking about M-16/M-4. Nope, couldn't be. They have a rate of fire of between 750 and 900 rounds a minute. An AK-47?? Nope, that too has a rate of fire of around 600 rounds a minute. Must be the M240, right? Nope, it clocks in at 650-950 rounds per minute. Its replacement, the Mk 48 Mod 0? 710 rounds/minute.
