NEWSFLASH: Bank Robber Breaks Law, Carries Gun.

This bank robbery took place a block from my office (2 blocks from the White House) the other day at my bank. It happened just as I was about to leave for lunch on one of the gorgeous spring like days we've been having here in D.C.

Of course, the Washington Post, as always, has some choice quotes.

Bob Barbour and Conrad Fair, who work in a nearby office building, said the guard ran out and stood over the wounded man, who picked up the shotgun but dropped it again. The guard then kicked away the gun, they said.

"I thought the guard did a phenomenal job," said Barbour. "He could have killed him, and he didn't."

The guard then held a gun on the robber for several minutes until police arrived.

"For probably 10 minutes," Fair said, the guard didn't move.

After police arrived, the two said, the guard sat down by himself on the sidewalk.

"You could tell he was upset," Barbour said

Now, lets deconstruct ...

Oh, thats great. A guy tries to rob you and shoot you in broad daylight with a shotgun, reaches for it after you have already shot him, and will now survive to rob another bank (or perhaps this same bank) another day. Not what I call a good job, seems the guard didn't finish his job. This scumbag is a candidate for a darwin award but the stupid cop managed to interfer and prevent him from attaining it. Only in DC (and maybe New York, and SF, and Chicago, and Boston, and LA) would this be considered a good thing. Good grief.

Folks, there is a shooting on a busy street corner 2 F'ING blocks from the White House, in the most heavily monitored and policed city in the world and it STILL takes anywhere from several minutes to ten minutes for the cops to show up.

let me ask you a question then ... when this scum bag gets released from jail next summer who'se home is he gonna break into to rob and rape? Is it gonna be mine in Virginia, where we make sure we finish what scum bags start? Or is he gonna find some poor defensless little old black lady in South East where the security isn't as tight as around the white house? Why, of course he's gonna pick on th elittle old lady - not because she's a little old lady, but because she can't legally own a gun and the police arent't going to show up till hours after he's done his deed.

Stories like this get my blood boiling. How can the african american community continue to allow itself to be hoodwinked by the rascist gun control policies of the democratric party? Please, someone tell me because it doesn't make any sense.
