Roadtrip
Well, the end of the week is coming too soon, but its been a pretty productive one.
On the way down, we spent the night in Wythville, Virginia where I woke up in the morning, looked out our window and saw this.
While walking the dog out back, we encountered a guy with a camera and some sleepy looking dudes he was interviewing. Turns out, its the cast of Roadtrip Nation and they are filming the second season of the show. I, of course, never heard of it and asked if it was "like that MTV show." The camera guy's response was more or less yes, but we are on PBS and focus on finding directyion in life as opposed to the drama of people living together. From what he told me, they've got a bunch of college grads in this van driving around the country for 6 weeks meeting leaders of business and government to talk about career direction. Sounds good, check it out. The dog liked 'em, and thats good enough for me.
When we got down here, we ended up racing out to a baseball game as the Chattanooga Lookouts defeated the Tennessee Smokeys 14-5. The Lookouts, a farm team for the Reds, took a commanding lead off of a 7 run first inning. Our seats, which cost all of $8 each, were excellent.
Minor League ball is a blast with great games, cheap tickets (and food) and lots of entertainment all evening long.
Early on, we were visited by General Admission riding on his tank.
After the game, they let the fans on the field for fireworks.
Beyond that, it was mostly an uneventful week - we went swimming, shot guns, and grilled out a lot. On Tuesday evening, while out grilling up some steaks, I noticed what I thought was a coyote on the hill behind me. Turns out, it was a dog the new redneck neighbors had purchased but then let out when they decided not to keep her anymore.
The poor thing was horribly malnourished, but super sweet, and we decided to adopt her. Haven't come up with a name yet - I thought Ginger, my wife liked Britta, and we've also thought about Dixie, Lulu, and Daisy as well as simply Little Puppy. Here's some pics of her.
I took that last picture up on Pigeon Mountain where I've been (trying to) Mountain Biking and doing a bit of four wheeling (not true hard core stuff, but enough to get some red mud on the Cherokee). Pigeon Mountain is a wildlife management area and home to some of Georgia's largest bucks. As a result, it is very popular with hunters, many of whom in this part of the country rely on the meat they take to fee their families - though I guess the liberals are against the poor too.
Chalk that up as just another example of the ludicrous war on drugs, alcohol and guns. Maybe Howard Dean and the Democratic Party can think about that sign (hanging at the check station on Rocky Lane) as they contemplate why rednecks won't vote for Democrats.
