Target vs. Samuels
Glenn is looking at the Wal Mart is Evil folks again, and of course, he brings up the coming emergence of Samuel's: An American Phenomenon.
The wife and I were standing in a long line at Target the other night and she was - rhetorically - asking why they always build 50 aisles in their stores but only service 5 with cashiers when I mentioned the Samuels concept to her.
She really dug it and would begin shopping there in a second. We picture it as sort of a combination of an old fashioned Woolworth's Five and Dime, K-Mart before the downfall, and Sears when the still did the Wishbook. And, if they could replace Starbuck's crappy $3.50 cup of java replaced with a $0.65 (anyone notice how the old C with a line through it "cent" sign disappeared from computers and wordprocessing programs over the last couple of years?) cup of 8 O'Clock Coffee it would run away from the competition.
Mmmm Mmmm Mmmm
