9/11
Is anyone else still fuming mad anymore? Do people get it or was Osama correct - that we were weak with no taste for blood?
Sorry, but I remain upset.
I still want to cry and I still want to scream and I still want to hide in the closet shaking and I still want to extract gallons of blood in revenge.
Yes, revenge.
I want to make these people pay and pay dearly. The fires of hell alone are not enough penance for what they have put this country through. I don't want Zacarias Moussaoui tried and convicted, I want him thrown to masses to be torn limb from limb in an orgy of blood lust before throwing his rotting fetid flesh to the pigs.
I want nuke Iran. Forget North Korea (well, don't, but forgive me a second) and eliminate Syria.
Lets not forget. Ever.
Janice Rogers Brown
Remember the hysterics from the left over Janice Rogers Brown?
How they screamed and yelled that her "extreme anti-environmental record" ensured her a place next to George Bush and James Watt in the hall of Environmental Wrongdoers?
Justice Brown’s record in her judicial opinions, speeches, and her Judiciary Committee testimony is extreme and displays an amazing hostility to government safeguards that is especially disturbing for a nominee to a lifetime seat on this critical court.
So, what then is her environmental record since assuming a place on the D.C. Circuit last year?
Well, first she sided with enviros and decided to throw out the Bush NSR changes a couple of months ago. Then, this week, she again sided with the enviro's in sticking down EPA's Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) program which set forth annual averaging standards, not daily standards.
I wonder if they will ever admit they were wrong?

Blog Commenting Advice
So, if while blog surfing, you moved to leave a comment, you ought to make sure it has something generally to do with the entry your commenting on. And, when it doesn't, its sort of a good idea to read what else the author has posted before accusing him of capitulating to this.
The Second Amendment means nothing outside of hunting.
Our forefathers gave us that right to fend off a military takeover in the U.S. - by either the left or the right.
Apparently, since most gun owners are far right they didn't see fit to fight the far right takeover so here we are. On the verge of martial law.
You'll imitate your German counterparts of 70 years ago. You'll allow them to take away any weapon that gives you parity with the military. You know you barely made a peep when the Brady Bill took away your assault rifles, which is what you'll need to effectively combat troops.
What a bunch of cowards, and what a sore disgrace you are to our forefathers who gave their blood for the likes of you.
Of course, what else can we expect from the Dingle Berry Ministries?

Clean As Coldwater
Can Cold Water Clean Dishes?
This is for all the germ conscious folks that worry about using cold water to clean.
John went to visit his 90 year old grandfather in a very secluded, rural area of Georgia .
After spending a great evening chatting the night away, John's grandfather prepared breakfast of bacon, eggs and toast. However, John noticed a film like substance on his plate, and questioned his grandfather asking, "Are these plates clean?"
His grandfather replied, "They're as clean as cold water can get them. Just you go ahead and finish your meal, Sonny!"
For lunch the old man made hamburgers. Again, John was concerned about the plates as his appeared to have tiny specks around the edge that looked like dried egg and asked, "Are you sure these plates are clean?"
Without looking up the old man said, "I told you before, Sonny, those dishes are as clean as cold water can get them. Now don't you fret, I don't want to hear another word about it!"
Later that afternoon, John was on his way to a nearby town and as he was leaving, his grandfather's dog started to growl, and wouldn't let him pass. John yelled and said, "Grandfather, your dog won't let me get to my car".
Without diverting his attention from the football game he was watching on TV, the old man shouted ..
"COLDWATER, GO LAY DOWN!!!!"

Peak Oil
I was going to leave this as a comment in response to Les Jones Peak Oil post but his new anti spam software hasn't let me post a comment in a few weeks. So, I'll just post it here.
We are far from even approaching peak oil. Forget 30 years, we've got a whole lot more than that out there.
Its true that the wells we have now may not remain viable for 30 years at today's prices. However, as we've seen with old wells that have recently come back on line now that the price has risen, its all a matter of economic efficiency. On the world market, petroleum really is a free flowing commodity. Its only when the government starts to screw with it that you see instability.
For a lot more, I really recommend you check out ExxonMobil's 30 year energy forcast - I know the lefty libs hate Exxon, but that doesn't mean they aren't right.
The reason they hate them is cause, like Wal Mart in its field, ExxonMobil tends to be right about its investments far more often than its competitors or anyone else.
Saw an interview with Lee Raymond 2 or 3 years ago and he was asked what he would do when he retired. His response was that he was paid very well by Exxon to think about how Exxon could make more money selling oil not to think about what he would do when he retired.
That is the mindset that pervades the whole company - everyone thinks about oil and how to find it, access it more efficiently, transport it more efficiently, process it more efficiently, and sell it more efficiently.
Their forecast, in my opinion, is rock solid and unlike the forecasting of the Energy Information Administration which is constantly tweaked and manipulated by the political concerns of whichever party is in control (even though it shouldn't) Exxon's forecast represents how they see the world evolving and serves as a guide to their future investment. They have no political concerns other than finding more energy and selling it.
You can read it here.

My Last Concert
Not quite sure as its been a couple of years. It was either:
Harry Connick, Jr and his big band at the Warner Theater here in DC a few years ago . . . scalped 2nd row center ticks as a Christmas gift for my wife, I was blown away by Connick's talent and the musicianship of his incredible band
or, it was
Widespread Panic at the 9:30 Club a few years ago. It left a lot to be desired (mostly the crowd, though I was also tired at the time).
Anyway, it should have been Roger Waters at Nissan Pavilion 4 years ago (7th row center tickets), but the wife and I were so exhausted at the time that we completely spaced on it and didn't even remember we had the tickets till 10 that evening. ugh.
Since the birth of the son, we just don't do the concert thing anymore. Its too bad.
My very first concert
The New Meme
Ted Nugent opening up for a reformed Aerosmith on their Done With Mirrors tour (still have the shirt somewhere) at the Meadowlands (Brendan Byrne, now Continental Airlines) Arena in New Jersey.
I was in 6th or 7th grade and my Dad took me and a buddy.
Awesome.

Bush Can Fix Energy Problem Now!
President Bush and congressional Republicans are under mounting public pressure to reduce gasoline prices, but they have few if any policy choices that would cut them over the next few months as family driving reaches its annual peak and as the midterm elections near.
Bullshit!
While many of the problems are indeed long term, and should have been addressed by George H.W. Bush or Clinton, the fact remains - as I've said before - that there are a number of short term actions Bush can take right now to significantly reduce the price of gas. In fact, according to this FTC report, at least 15% of the price is the result of policy considerations. Frankly, I think he could easily reduce the price at least 30%, if not more, for the duration of the summer driving season.
1. Open up the Outer Continental Shelf and Lease Sale Area 181 to oil and gas (natural gas) development. Right now its under a year to year moratoria on development, a moratoria which is before the Department of Interior as we speak, and so far Bush has refused to do so because he wants to help his brother politically in Florida. Screw that. We elected him, not his brother.
If he opened up 181 then resistance to development elsewhere would melt away, ending lots of speculation on long term energy supplies and realizing an immediate drop in the price of a barrel of oil.
2. Waive boutique fuel requirements for this summer. This will cause pollution levels to rise slightly (but enough reductions have been realized elsewhere over the last 9 years - by power plants, new engine technologies, and low sulfur fuel) that most people won't notice it. It will also cause the price of a gallon of gas to drop about 30 cents as combined refining and distribution costs are cut almost in half. Here's some more info on boutique fuels. This, of course, would also have the added benefit of showcasing how idiotic and economically harmful some of the Clean Air Act's requirements are . . . . and put environmentalists on the defensive for a generation. Frankly, Bush's standing on environmental issues couldn't get any lower. Why the hell does he even care what these people think? And why is he willing to sacrifice the American economy on their behalf?
3. Suspend collection of federal fuel taxes - a savings of 18.4 cents a gallon. The government could do with a little tightening of its purse strings, and what a better way to do so than to boost the economy (and therefore tax revenues) at the same time. He can also financial incentives and economic guarantees to get states to provide some relief too. Here is a nice primer on gas taxes generally.
For what its worth, here is a good primer on gasoline prices. A new one, with 2005 data, is due out in June. You can also check out the wikipedia entry.
It well within Bush's power to do something about the problem, and to do it now.
Why won't he show any leadership?????
UPDATE
This is simply not enough.
President Bush is trying to calm Americans' outrage over soaring gas prices by ordering an investigation into whether the price of gasoline has been illegally manipulated, his spokesman said Monday.
...
Bush's actions are part of a four-part plan to address gas prices in the short- and long-term, McClellan said. The steps McClellan outlined are:
1. making sure consumers and taxpayers are treated fairly;
2. promoting greater fuel efficiency;
3. boosting gasoline supply at home;
4. aggressive long-term investment in alternative fuels.
Seriously, this is wholly inadequate. Couldn't the Democrats have nominated someone even slightly better than the Traitorous Lout? Can we fire Bush now?? Speaking of which, why in the hell is McClellan still speaking with the press. I thought they canned him? If this half assed response is the best he can do, perhaps Bush can follow him out the door too.
UPDATE Well, this is a start!
President Bush on Tuesday ordered a temporary suspension of environmental rules for gasoline, making it easier for refiners to meet demand and possibly dampen prices at the pump. He also halted for the summer the purchase of crude oil for the government's emergency reserve.
...
Wholesale gasoline futures prices for June delivery dropped 8 cents a gallon to $2.10 on the New York Mercantile Exchange immediately upon Bush's remarks.
Easing the environment rules will allow refiners greater flexibility in providing oil supplies since they will not have to use certain additives such as ethanol to meet clean air standards. The suspension of oil purchases for the federal emergency oil reserve is likely to have only modest impact since relative little extra oil will be involved.
I would expect that the ultimate impact of this is going to be about 30-40 cents per gallon, depending on where you live. You should see some impact on prices within a week.
Update: Heh! Score Two!!!!
Democrats are set to introduce a measure that would create a "federal gas tax holiday" by eliminating the federal tax on gas and diesel for sixty days, RAW STORY has learned.
The measure, proposed by Sen. Bob Menendez (D-NJ), would reduce the cost of gas by $0.184 per gallon and the cost of diesel by $0.244 per gallon. The move, aides say, will provide $100 million dollars per day in relief.
And in less than 24 hours. Sometimes I really do know what I am talking about :)
Now, lets just try to get the Republicans to go along - or propose something even better.
UPDATE
Heh!
Vote Republican, We Haven't Quite Tanked The Economy As Bad As Carter!
Sounds like a winning slogan to me (and yes, the pun is intentional).
3 Bullets
A woman, pregnant with triplets was walking down the street
when a robber ran out of a bank and shot her three times in the
stomach. Luckily, she and the babies survived. The surgeon decided
to leave the bullets in because it was too risky to operate. She gave
birth to two healthy daughters and a healthy son.
All was fine for 16 years, and then one daughter walked into the room
in tears.
"What's wrong?" asked the mother. "I was taking a tinkle
and this bullet came out" replied the daughter. The mother told her it was
okay and explained what happened 16 years before.
About a week later the second daughter walked into the room in tears.
"Mom, I was taking a tinkle and this bullet came out." Again the mother
told her not to worry and explained what happened 16 years before.
A week later her son walked into the room in tears.
"It's okay" said the Mom, "I know what happened, you were taking a
tinkle and a bullet came out."
"No," said the boy, "I was playing with myself and I shot the dog."

Madeline Albright: Idiot
I've long thought she was perhaps th worst thing to ever happen to the US's international relations, worse even than her benefactor Bill Clinton.
I'm even more convinced of her cluelessness, now.
Q: In your new book, "The Mighty and the Almighty: Reflections on America, God and World Affairs," you admit to having underestimated the role that religion would come to play in foreign affairs.
People were unprepared for it. I was unprepared for it. What I grew up with was the "rational actor" model of foreign policy — the idea that you're dealing with someone who is going through a rational process and not a spiritual process.
This answer pretty much sums up everything thats wrong with liberals.
Deer Control
Real idiotic article in the NY Times on controlling deer.
They discuss 3 options.
A $1,000 plus $100 a month surveillance plan to track deer, deter them through noise and scents, and pesticides applied to plants. Dumb, dumb dumb. And expensive.
A $295 deer proof fence. Well, thats a bit better, but seriously I'd rather have no garden than a garden covered by an ugly black mesh fence.
"The most important thing to remember is that you have to completely enclose the area you want to protect," Mr. Benner said. "Some people enclose just their garden, and some enclose the entire property."
Finally, they discuss the only real strategy.
Dan Beyer, one of four partners in WhiteTail Solutions in Oxford, Conn., said that his company uses experienced licensed archers to cull troublesome herds. "We hunt from elevated tree stands, and all our shots are projected downward," Mr. Beyer said.
Of course, they make this seem like it is above and beyond the normal. Shouldn't all shots out of a stand be downward, anyway? And what the hell is a "licensed archer." Are they claiming any thing other than the 'ol hunting license anyone can pick up for $20?
Mr. Beyer is ok with me though, cause apparently he doesn't charge for his services. Rather, he sells hunting gear on line and takes the venison and donates it to food banks (would have been nice for the Times to throw a reference to Hunters for the Hungry in there) or local sporting groups.
I've got my own solution.
Out And About
Others do this, so I thought I would to.
I've been using bloglines for a while now and really like it, though it makes it tough to follow up on the running commentary of older posts without remembering which blogs you've visited and which you've commented on (since it resets each blog after each visit).
Still, its pretty handy and has allowed me to blog more in less time.
Here's a quick review of things striking my interest that are up on bloglines (and hence new since I last checked in)
War on Guns in wondering why questions are being asked.
Zendo Deb and I both like watermelon.
Dave H at Synthstuff (one of my favorite blogs by the way - he certainly deserves way more traffic) has been building robots, busting fraudulent New Orleans mayoral candidates and, well, hunting easter bunnies
My brothers hitting the Cabela's in PA tomorrow. According to Irons In The Fire, they are evil. Not positive on it - but to the extent jealousy is one of the seven deadly sins I am pretty wiling to agree.
Head's got a dragooon for BAG day.

The Price of Gas
As I've said before, I am not surprised that gas hit $4.00 a gallon.
What has surprised me (though perhaps it shouldn't) is that it happened so early in the year. Its $3.29 right now for the high test ($2.99 for low grade at the McLean Exxon). I had predicted it would top $4.00 by August, but perhaps I should readjust that thinking now and say $5.00 a gallon gas is a possibility. Not sure if I am ready to go out on that limb yet, but I'll check some figures tomorrow and re-evaluate.
The bigger questions though are 1) who is to blame and 2) what can we do about it.
Well, they are going to try and spin it as a Bush problem - and politically it is. He really dropped the ball on this, and if he grew a set of nuts and wanted to take on the environmentalists he could remedy the problem real quick. The problem is that as we have seen with Lee Raymond and my Exxon stock, price increases are marginally good for oil guys.
But ultimately, it comes down to the Democrats and their continued toeing of the environmental doomsday line. Market forces and the Clean Air Act are the real underlying problems here.
The Clean Air Act requires a mixture of boutique fuels, all of which introduce artificial restrictions on the gasoline market - as does the continued litigation over (and now bans on the use of) MTBE which is boosting the ethanol market - at a high price to consumers. Back in the early days of the Bush Administration I used to joke that he should grant California their wish and force them to use ethanol. Looks like its happened anyway.
The Clean Air Act is also - along with a general NIMBY mentality - one of the main obstacles to the construction of new refineries, further impeding the growth of gas supplies.
This, of course, is augmented by increasing worldwide demand, but seriously the situation in Niger and Venezuela and Iran along with increased Chinese demand can all be compensated with fairly simply domestic policy shifts.
Of course, the Clean Air Act doesn't allow you to consider economics when looking at these issues - but at what point do people loose so much money that they no longer go to the doctor or are able to afford air conditioning, the bus to work, a healthy diet (milk for their kids), etc.
Shad Planking
The Post has a great article on George Allen's overwhelming show of support at yesterday's Shad Planking
More accurately, the Allen fans were the crowd. At the 58th annual Shad Planking, where Virginia's political set heralds campaign season each April, it was hard to find someone who doesn't plan to vote for the Republican U.S. senator this fall. And it was hard to see the candidate himself as he made his way slowly through an adoring throng of beer-drinkers, cigar-smokers and gobblers of the planking's famous plates of fish, coleslaw and beans.
They also ran this picture, which highlights one fact of Virginia's political life I find a bit distasteful.
See those little red circles with blue crosses on all the folks (especially the lady in white up front and the black man behind her)? They are Heritage Not Hate stickers that the local Sons of Confederate Veterans pass out en mass at all such gatherings. Now, I understand their message (my father in law is very active in his local camp down in Georgia) but I find the stickers and their in your face attitude a bit offputting. Frankly, I wish they would just fly the confederate battle flag (or even better, Bonnie Blue) than toss out these stickers which really do look more Klanish than otherwise are necessary.
And the pressure they excerpt on people to wear them is, frankly, one of the reasons I don't go to these types of events as much as I used to.

Just for the heck of it, here is some more Radiohead.
and no, Jonny Greenwood isn't playing a Therimin but rather an Ondes Martenot.

I think this might be the best version of the song I've heard.
Its from David Letterman's show and includes a great electronic Rhodes piano.
For an outstanding analysis of this song, far better than I could write, check out the wikipedia entry.

Oklahoma City
Cam's right, I had forgetton today was the anniversary of the terrible Oklahoma City tragedy.
My heart goes out to the people of that fine city.
In April of 2005 I had just graduated college and was working in the marketing department of APC, a job I got partly through my position as a help desk/help line staffer at the University of Rhode Island computer department. I wasn't a computer science major, and I think thats something they liked. I knew alot about computers back then and yet, as a Poli Sci major destined for law school I was able to communicate and assist the vast student body in ways the computer folks couldn't.
Anyway, APC was just down the street from my house at the time. Having forgotten lunch, I headed home and my wife (girlfriend at the time) was sitting in the living room watching CNN and crying.
We were 100% certain it was Arab terrorists. We were wrong, and shocked, when they arrested the ghouls responsible.
I guess one reason why this story is less remembered these days is probably as a result of the capture, conviction, and execution of the person responsible. For many Americans it was a sense of closure, though I suspect that the hole in the heart of Oklahoma will never be closed.
I Wouldn't Believe It Either
The freshman said he couldn't believe he was being robbed -- in the middle of a spring afternoon, just outside his dormitory at Catholic University in Northeast Washington. He was one of more than a dozen victims of carjackings and robberies during a terrifying few hours Monday in the District and Prince George's County.
I am shocked, just shocked that something like this could happen in gun free DC.
Who is to blame??
lets start with the Mayor and his corrupt chief of police who continue to fan the flames of violence that come when criminals know all non criminals are disarmed.
Of course, it would be nice if the reporters covering the story actually knew anything about what they were reporting. For instance . . .
Aiming an assault pistol directly at the college freshman's face, the robber cocked the gun. The student heard a clack as a round entered the chamber.
Forget for a second the obvious question - what the hell is an assault pistol and when was this new catagory of menacing arm develoepd - are they really claiming (or is this Catholic University student claiming) that simply cocking the hammer back placed a bullet in the chamber? Or did the goblin rack the slide (an action that requires the use of a second hand)?
Then, about 1:30 p.m., four assailants, wearing black hoods, stormed a family-run auto parts store, Safe-N-Sound Auto Systems, in Adelphi. One pulled out an assault pistol and pointed it at a salesman, who exchanged a nervous look with his aunt, who also worked in the store, and a customer.
Aah, that assault pistol again. It would really be nice to find out just what this is? And, while I don't criticize the failure of the victim or his co-workers to shoot back while be held up, why in the hell didn't they shoot the twerp in the back as he was leaving (oh yeah, they have been disarmed, lets blame this one on Doug Duncan and Paris Glendening)
By 3:30 p.m., the assailants were hanging out in a parking lot next to a dormitory at Catholic University in the 600 block of Michigan Avenue NE, police said. After robbing the freshman and his brother, the gunman strode over to the dorm's entrance. He held the assault pistol by his side, the freshman said.
There's that dreaded assault pistol again. Jeesh . . . what the heck kind of weapon could this be???
Yesterday, some of those who live or attend schools in neighborhoods targeted by the robbers said they were shocked by the brazen crimes.
"It's so scary," said Lauren Treacy, 18, a freshman at Catholic. "I know I have to be careful."
About two miles away, at Howard, where one of the carjackings occurred, freshman Kimberly Williams, 19, was trying to come to terms with the suddenness of it all.
"I wouldn't expect that to happen here in broad daylight," she said.
I would . . .

Rhino Rodeo
More pressing matters (my job) have interfered this week and so I am sad to inform you I won't be able to offer my usual bang up, fun filled, compelling carnival. Instead, you’ll just have to make do with this short and concise list of links to all who haven't fully swallowed the party's kool-aid.
First off, My good buddy Tyler Durden has some thoughts on Julie Roberts.
Julia Roberts wanting credit for bringing her own fancy cup to Starbucks is like a rapist wanting credit because he put in a mix tape.
You have positively, absolutely, 100% have to love a story like this.
Is there a war on Christians? Who knows, but judging from Comedy Central's reaction to Mohammed, there most certainly isn't any sort of popular media animosity to the nation's sworn enemies. Tyler has also offered to share with us a great roundup of Mohammed’s apperances on Comedy Central. Of course, as I asked the other day, if its forbidden to publish (or even recreate) the image of Mohammad, then how the heck do these idiots know what he looks like in the first place?
How do we know he doesn't look like this?
Regardless, i am sure he would love to sit back with a glass of this as he watches us continue to kick his ass.
And then, there was Jessica.
As poor of a job as Bush has been doing running the economy as of late (and don't think gas can't hit $4 a gallon by election day), modern democrats still seem intent on throwing away an election that is theirs to lose. For one, pro Iran is simply not a good position. Ever.
Of course, there are other problems with liberals. Mostly they revovle around getting facts straight, hyperbole, and their inability to find their ass with both hands on an ass map.
Tax day is another problem with liberals. They were due today, and their not the only way the government steals your money. Turns out, they are more than willing to offer your returns up for sale as well.
Tax Day is also BAG Day, an annual event in the blogsphere wherein honest citizens dedicate a portion of the stolen money they've manged to recover from the government to the purchase of a firearm in order to keep that corrupt beast (the government) in check. Here's a list of this years purchases so far. I haven't actually gotten my cash back yet, so I am still deliberating on what my purchase should be, though I suspect it will be of the EBR Homeland Security variant.
Just another reason to hate DC. Of course, I can give you a couple too.
Lots of people have also posted about Greenpeace Founder Patrick Moore and Climate Change. Here's an official RINO link. I try not to blog about work, but in the interest of full disclosure, I have worked fairly closely with Dr. Moore on a number of issues over the last 3 or 4 years. This op-ed doesn't surprise me in the least. We don't agree on everything (or even a lot) but I have found him to be one of the most reasonable environmentalist I've ever met.
Brown v Board of Ed, revisited.
This makes no sense to me. Either he was indicted or he wasn't. If the prosecutor wasn't a member of the bar, then he couldn't indict him, and he should be able to be a second time. If he was a member of the bar, then there is no need to toss the indictment out.
Barry Bonds, true to life crook and cheat and bastard, but can his Doctor testify against him?
Finally, Dean Esmay is looking at racists.
Thanks for stopping by!

In today's MMQB
An inning or two later, Bob found himself perusing the in-stadium menu that some prime baseball seats now feature. He came upon "white zinfandel" on the beverage list. "Anyone who orders white zinfandel at a baseball game cannot be a baseball fan -- and may not be an American,'' he announced. In a mocking tone, he said, pretending to order, "'Yes, I'd like a summer fruit salad and a white zinfandel, please.' You've got to be kidding!"

"She was a little shy but I just kept pointing to each bit of my body and saying ‘Breast!' ‘Thigh!' encouraging her to kiss every part of me. She was so eager to please. It was such a turn-on looking down at her gorgeous naked body as I showed her how to make love to a woman."
Soon Angelina was calling shots, too. Their ideal night was for her to dress in PVC pants with matching skintight vest and trawl strip clubs together.
"I even took her to dominatrix joints and she loved them all," said Jenny. "The darker and naughtier the better.
"Then we'd go back to wherever we were staying, desperate to rip each other's clothes off and act out the moves we'd seen. They were amazing nights."
God I Love Angelina Jolie
Which, of course, allows us to visit one of the all time classic lyrics
I Wish I Was a Lesbian
Lyrics by Loudon Wainwright
I wish I was a lesbian, and not a hetero.
I wouldn't have to deal with men and all their come and go,
And all their yucky yucky facial hair and all their machis'mo!
I wish I were a lesbian and not a hetero!
I wish I was a lesbian and that I wasn't straight.
I'd sleep with women only. Man, it would be great.
I'd throw away my diaphragm, I wouldn't want to mate.
I wish I was a lesbian, and that I wasn't straight!
I wish I were a lesbian, I'd like to be a dyke.
I'd sleep with k.d. lang. Mel Gibson, take a hike!
I think it would be nice to love someone who was alike.
I wish I was a lesbian, I'd like to be a dyke!
I wish I was a lesbian, that's why this song is sung.
It shouldn't really matter how somebody is hung.
Other things are more important- like how you use your tongue!
I wish I was a lesbian, that's why this song is sung!
I DARE Casey Kasem to play this!
I wish I was a lesbian, and not a hetero.
I wouldn't have to deal with men and all their come and go,
And all their yucky facial hair and all their machis'mo
(I hate that machis'mo!)
I wish I was a lesbian and not a hetero!
A History of Violence
Rented the DVD. Incredible movie. Highly recommended.
Its about how the life of a small town middle America guy running a greasy spoon diner is changed after he achieves coast to coast noteriety after violently defending his customers and employees from two sadistic killers. Gruesome, but not gratuitously. First time through, I actually turned it off about 5 minutes in because of the disturbing nature of the violence, but tried to watch it a second time and am glad I made it through the troubling first scene.
David Cronenberg is a cinematic genius (but why so long between flicks??), Viggo Mortensen is a brilliant actor (even if he is a commie) and Maria Bello is drop dead gorgeous. The special features and some of the best I've experienced, and Cronenberg, being the genius he is, has put together a must see directors commentary track.
Oh yeah, the gun play is pretty good too.
Check it out.

Why I Hate DC
One of my favorite blogs is Why I Hate DC. It cracks me up.
Well, here are two more reasons.
The other day, my wife came in to see me at work for lunch. After dropping me off at my building, she proceeded to walk down the street, carrying our son, to grab her car. Her heel go caught in a crack on the sidewalk and she went crashing to the ground, throwing my son down (he was lucky he didn't get thrown into the traffic and only bounced on the sidewalk. He knees and the palms of her hands were pretty torn up (and later were bleeding) and my son was startled, bruised, and shrieking.
Now, this was at lunch hour, in the heart of downtown DC, right off K street, not far from the White House. Would you imagine some lobbyist type might stop to assist? Ask if she was alright? Help my screaming and crying son?
Nope, the only person who came to her aid was a homeless guy who dispatched a friend to get one of the yellow jacketed guys. Wife ended up being ok and didn't need any assistance, though she has certainly begun commenting on how evil the folks in DC are.
Example 2, this morning. McLean, Virginia in the Giant Shopping Center.
I had driven there, on the way to an Easter Egg hunt at our church to drop off some film at Moto Photo. Parked the car, went to get my son out of the car and as I turned around to shut his door he squirmed away and ran right out into the lane. I saw this happening, and saw a car coming right at him. It was as if it was all in slow motion. I quickly screamed, jumped, grabbed him and threw him back out of the way. He was shaken up and I started lecturing him. There was a grandma type woman driving the car, who really wasn't going to fast and luckily saw him who pulled up and made sure we were all right. As she was talking to us, some asshole guy in super stylish clothes walks up to his BMW SUV parked right next to us, turns it on, leans his head out the window and yells "ARE YOU GOING TO MOVE ALREADY, I DON'T HAVE ALL DAY!"
Asshole.

A Googlanche
Like an instalanche, only better.
Apparently, if you google Lee Paige I am the first link that comes up referring to the idiot cop (well, the second, there is a link to his stats while at Florida State).
Don't know how I managed it, but I've landed a few thousand more hits than usually.
Welcome Google searchers
Ebonya Washington Is A Full Of Shit Racist
Seriously, is this rascist crap even worth reporting?
white Republicans nationally are 25 percentage points more likely on average to vote for the Democratic senatorial candidate when the GOP hopeful is black, says economist Ebonya Washington of Yale University in a forthcoming article in the Quarterly Journal of Economics. White independents are similarly inclined to vote for the white Democrat when there's a black Republican running, according to her study of congressional and gubernatorial voting patterns between 1982 and 2000, including five Senate races in which the Republican nominee was black.
Take, for instance, the doomed candidacy of Alan Keyes. To claim that the failure of White Republicans to vote for a candidate who came across as being Howard Dean crazy was solely related to race is ludicrous.
You can read her racist bile here.
Walk The Line
I watched the movie again last night with my mother in law who has always been a big Johnny Cash fan. The previous two times I saw it, I never noticed Johnny putting an asleep Luther Perkins' cigarette out on the bus. It was an eerie forshadow of Perkins the circumstances surrounding Perkins death a couple of years later.
Anyway, it is a terrific film.

Wal-let-Mart
The Post has a review of the new upscale Wal-Mart in Plano, TX . . . complete with a $557 bottle of wine.
The high-end Wal-Mart claims to have 2,000 grocery items not previously available to its shoppers, most of them organic. That's a lot of different kinds of balsamic vinaigrette. It also has a one-carat $2,984 engagement ring. It sells a $3,477 high-definition plasma TV, and on it they are showing "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory," the creepy 1971 version, begging for ruminations on excess. But soon enough we run out of dazzle. Thread counts in the bedding aisle max out at 250. The mind wanders toward something that screams Wal-Mart: a contraption that grills a chicken atop an open beer can, for beery good flavor.
And in the long, long aisle that is the wine department, there are four bottles of La Mondotte 1999 Comtes de Neipperg selling for $557.47 each. They are on a short, kiosk-type wooden shelf near an aisle-long cooler of beer. (The good beers, but also the bad.) On the other side there's a '98 Dom Perignon ($145.37), and several other wines in the $100 to $300 range.
I'm just wondering 'bout the Firearms counter. . .have they replaced the cheap Mossberg pumps with fine Holland and Hollands? The Japanese made (Howa) Weatherby Vanguards with plush Weatherby Mark V (in .300 Weatherby Magnum)? Do they carry Barratt's??
A Question
So, there I was sitting on the shitter pondering the world around us and my thoughts turned to the recent furour over South Park and images of Muhammad.
My question is a simple one really, if recreation of Muhammad's image isn't allowed then how the hell would the islamists even know what images to be offended by, since presumably they have no idea what he looks like?? (forgeting for a second the fact that he was born in 570 and so we really don't know at all what he looks like).
Could I simply attach Mohammed's name to any image and that then becomes an image of Mohammed?
Like this Turkey?
Or, does it only count if I attach Mohammed's name to an image of an Arab?
What about if I called a women Mohammed?
No, that wouldn't work, she's too attractive. Here, how 'bout this one.
Mohammed
And, considering how many Mulsims are named Mohammed, should there be riots any time anyimages of them are published, such as this pictures of Mohammed?

As Seen In The Washington Post
Well, the Metro Express at least (scroll to page 33).
I even got a picture and an arrow too, all because of this post criticizing DC's gun ban.
Hey, don't laugh, I wouldn't be surprised if the free daily Post given out to Metro Riders doesn't have a higher readership some days.
Thanks to K-Romulous at The High Road for letting me know.
Cool

Interesting coincidence
Turns out that on my birthday in 2005 - Daniel Craig, as wussy of a man as ever walked the earth, dishonered the legacy of those before him when he was announced to be the sixth actor to appear in an official James Bond film, Casino Royale.
This came, incidently, two years to the day after the 2003 death of Patrick Dalzel-Job, the English soldier who was the inspiration for James Bond and as real a man as ever walked the earth.
And today, the Earth is the center of the universe
Or so was the consensus of Scientific opinion back in Copernicus's day. Still, some folks are convinced that the only scientists who disagree with the worshipers in the Temple of Climate Change Fundraising Opportunities are, to quote Manish, working at institutions that are not "exactly world-renowned if you know what I mean. . . .Its not to say that they are sham universities by any stretch of teh imagination, but they are definitely bottom-tier."
I guess I must have had the wrong impression about MIT.
But there is a more sinister side to this feeding frenzy. Scientists who dissent from the alarmism have seen their grant funds disappear, their work derided, and themselves libeled as industry stooges, scientific hacks or worse. Consequently, lies about climate change gain credence even when they fly in the face of the science that supposedly is their basis.
Read the whole piece, and you might begin to understand something about public debates where

Lee Paige, That Idiot Cop
WELCOME INTERNET SURFERS Lots of other great stuff here. Feel free to stay awhile. The blog generally focuses on 2nd Amendment issues as well as instances of our local government overstepping its bounds here in the DC area. I also throw up the occasional song lyric too.
Remember Lee Paige, that idiot cop who shot himself in the foot?
Yeah, well apparantly his so called career has been ruined because the world knows he isn't really the "the only person in the room professional enough to carry the weapon." He of course isn't blaming the person responsible for that - himself - but rather the Federal Government for not confiscating and supressing the private video of the presentation that was made and has been circulating around the internet.
You can check out a copy of his poorly drafted pro se complaint (meaning, he did it himself and couldn't find an attorney willing to take on the Justice Department) here at the Smoking Gun.
I don't expect this case to go beyond an initial motion for summary judgment. For one, it fails to state a claim upon which relief can be granted - ie: he hasn't alleged a wrong doing on the part of the US Government. I guess he might be able to argue over whether a video of his public performance that wasn't recorded by the federal government is a record for purposes of 5 USC 522(a). I don't believe it is, but in either case its a question of law and not fact and therefore will be disposed of well before the trial (he seems to concede that is was filmed by a private, non federal government, party).
They Almost Got It Right
The New York Times I mean.
Kudos to Leslie Wayne for writing an otherwise noteworthy and mostly accurate (don't nitpick the minor details guys) article on the rebirth of Smith & Wesson in the Time's Business section. Its pretty much unassailable, except for the Time's inability to resist the ubiquitous gun banning bigot quote.
Specifically, rather than seek out comment from the NRA, NSSA, or any of the myriad of gun magazines and other gun owner organizations, they gave noted gun banner Joshua Horwitz an opportunity to spin some success for his organizations efforts (and also enabled the times to source a slightly inaccurate statement).
"The government is the only business that is expanding," said Joshua Horwitz, executive director of the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence, based in Washington. "The civilian market is not, while the government is putting tens of billions of dollars into homeland security."
Yep, its mostly true - though not entirely - but still.
Quoting Horwitz though, is an embarrassment, especially since his quote didn't lend much to the story. Its mere presence is certainly more prejudicial than probative, its mere presence calling into question the article's underlying truthfulness (which, in fact, turns out to be rather accurate and truthful).
Even worse, in my opinion, is the quote from Judas on behalf of the latest bigoted gun banning fraud released on the American Public, the so called American Hunters and Shooters Association.
"Repealing the assault weapon bans opened a new market for military-style and exotic weapons for consumers," said Robert A. Ricker, executive director of the American Hunters and Shooters Association, a membership group. "A lot of guys delight in having the biggest and most nasty-looking guns. That's one of the industry trends."
Anyway, those two quotes aside, the article is mostly positive and exceedingly accurate considering the average treatment of this matter in the press. Of course, outside the Times op-ed page, I've found their coverage of firearms matters to be mostly better than the average MSM publication.

$3 Bucks A Gallon
Tell me, please, why did we elect an oil guy for President if he can't even get us a good rate on gas (let alone protect the borders from illegals??)
My Own Personal Top 10
States to consider relocating to (based solely on tax burdens)
1. South Dakota
2. Texas
3. New Hampshire
4. Colorado
5. Missouri
6. Tennessee
7. Alabama
8. South Carolina
9. Georgia
10. Oregon
Now, of these 10, some are clearly not in the running for real move. For instance, while South Dakota might have the lowest tax burden, it also has little there that would draw me (employment wise). I actually spoke with some folks about a job in Houston not too long ago, but my wife is dead set against moving to Texas. I would be giddy with delight over living in New Hampshire but my wife already tried the Northeast once, and I can't imagine her putting up with the snow (though it would be good for my son). Missouri is just plain too flat, and St. Louis isn't my favorite city. Oregon is just too far away, and I've never been there. I want to go visit, but don't know about moving.
As for the rest, I should have moved to Colorado when I had the chance, though I think if the opportunity arose we would still consider it. The others though are all very much a possibility and located in generally the same small Southeastern part of the country that I've begun to love. We already have a place in Georgia and I am in the process of completing the bar application for both there and the Tennessee. I have great connections to the business and political community in Alabama, and have discussed a move to Birmingham with people in the past, but continue to weigh my options. Finally, I like South Carolina a lot and see lots of opportunity for growth there - especially as they come closer to development of their massive interstate highway construction project (Glenn Reynolds' pork buster campaign be damned!).
Climate Change
No comment, just an obligatory update on Kyoto.
In a significant, but hardly surprising move, Canada's new conservative government has made it clear that it will abandon the plans made in accordance with targets under the Kyoto Protocol. These are impossible to achieve according to environment minister Rona Ambrose who will probably be mandated to come up with a unique Canada-based formula to reduce greenhouse gases. These efforts are supported by a letter from 60 leading international climate change experts who once more reiterated the near impossibility to seperate the various causes that are contributing to climate change
Wait, I thought all the experts agreed????

Why Unions Have To Go
I am sure there once was a time and place, but seriously, sometimes they are their own worst enemy.
911 tapes detail the call, where the boy tells a female operator that his mom had passed out. The operator demands to speak to an adult before sending police.
The boy eventually hung up and called back a short time later. This time, the same operator warns the boy that he could get in trouble for making a prank call to 911. The boy said police didn't arrive until three hours later and found his mother dead.
Officials said the 911 operator will be disciplined, but because of her years of service she will not be fired.
If it was up to me, she'd be charged with negligent homicide (and I'd throw a conspiracy to commit charge at whoever the fucking official who refused to fire her is)
The Post Misses the Point
In its editorial on the rights of foreign nationals facing criminal prosecutions within the United States, the Post opines
THE SUPREME COURT heard arguments last week in the latest salvo in a long-running legal dispute about the proper role of foreign and international law in American adjudication. The case of Mario Bustillo, convicted in Virginia of a brutal murder in Springfield that occurred in 1997, raises anew the question of what happens when American states fail to let foreign nationals accused of crimes contact their consulates, as a treaty requires. Police did not permit Mr. Bustillo, a Honduran, to contact his government after his arrest, and he is serving 30 years in prison. The legal issue presented by his case -- along with another case from Oregon -- is not terribly difficult or compelling. He should lose. Yet there's another issue in this case that has been largely lost amid the high court's fascination with the scope of treaty obligations: Virginia authorities may have prosecuted the wrong man, and they clearly suppressed important evidence suggesting his innocence.
They go on to say that
On the narrow question, yes, the Vienna Convention on consular relations requires that when nations arrest each other's citizens, they tell one another and give the detainee the right to contact his home country's consulate for assistance. But this treaty was designed to gives states certain privileges, not to grant judicially enforceable rights to individuals. So state failures to follow the treaty may create a diplomatic issue between the United States and other countries and potentially raise risks for Americans arrested abroad. But they don't create a basis for an appeal by a person convicted of a crime.
Au contrare . . . .
Isn't that same Vienna Convention (of which the United State is a party and therefore which is enforceable upon State procedings) also capable of ensuring the sanctity of a foreign defendant's sixth amendment right to counsel? A local lawyer, speaking a different language and discussing a legal system not of his own, is at a marked disadvantage in providing counsel to a foreign national. By allowing a defendant to contact his embassy, the defendant is more capable of obtaining a lawyer who not only can communicate with the defendant and can advocate much more forcefully for that defendant.
Last time I checked, denial of the sixth amendment right to counsel is certainly a "basis for an appeal by a person convicted of a crime."
In the immediate case, it appears that police in Virginia suppressed evidence of another individuals guilt, including records that the true perpetrator fled the US and returned back to Honduras. If the Defendant was able to contact his consulate and obtain a Honduran attorney, perhaps this issue could have been fleshed out in a much more effective fashion than it was.
Going to hell in a bucket?
James Rummel has an excellent post on better training. Check it out.
Of course, as with all things, it allowed me to make a connection to another great Bobby Weir-John Perry Barlow Grateful Dead tune.
Hell In A Bucket
Lyrics by John Perry Barlow
Music by Bob Weir
Well, I was drinking last night with a biker
And I showed him a picture of you
I said, "Pal, get to know her. You'll like her."
Seemed like the least I could do...
'Cause when he's driving his chopper
Up and down your carpeted halls,
You will think me by contrast quite proper.
Never mind how I stumble and fall.
Never mind how I stumble and fall.
[Chorus:]
You imagine me sipping champagne from your boot
For a taste of your elegant pride
I may be going to hell in a bucket, babe,
But at least I'm enjoying the ride.
At least I'm enjoying the ride.
At least I'm enjoying the ride.
Now miss sweet little soft-core pretender,
Somehow baby got hard as it gets.
With her black leather chrome spiked suspenders,
Her chair and her whip and her pets.
Well we know you're the reincarnation
Of the ravenous Catherine the Great.
And we know how you love your ovations
For the Z-rated scenes you create.
The Z-rated scenes you create.
[Bridge:]
You analyze me, pretend to despise me,
You laugh when I stumble and fall.
There may come a day I will dance on your grave
If unable to dance, I will crawl across it
Unable to dance, I'll still crawl.
You must really consider the circus
'Cause it just might be your kind of zoo
I can't think of a place that's more perfect
For a person as perfect as you.
And it's not like I'm leaving you lonely
'Cause I wouldn't know where to begin
But I know that you'll think of me only
When the snakes come marching in
When the snakes come marching in

Fun In Sunny Sin City
Maybe this will get Kim to change his mind about Vegas.
I find it quite therapeutic," Lee Tedstone of County Donegal, Ireland, said after firing his first Uzi. "It's a relief."
Tedstone and his friends are among hundreds of tourists lured to Las Vegas gun ranges every month for the promise a brief thrill with a weapon that's banned abroad and hard to find in the United States.
Tourists line up to shred near life-size paper targets of Osama bin Laden or Saddam Hussein — doctored so the villains make eye contact from across the range.
"It's a bit of an adrenaline rush," Tedstone said.
yeah baby!!!

BAG Day Update
Just got off the phone with the 'ol accountant.
Seems I've managed to wrangle even more of my stolen loot back from the Government - to the tune of $4500. Sweeet.
Of course, I can't spend all (or even nearly all) on a gun as 1) finances continue to be tight, 2) I want to stick it in my kids college savings fund, and 3) I don't want my wife to use whatever gun I buy to shoot me.
Still, my holdings of scare-the-bejesus-out-of-the-neighbors rifles is a bit lacking and may warrant serious consideration of an AR-15, especially as I am a bit jealous of my brother who picked up an Bushmater M4orgery last night as his BAG Day Gun.
Gun Free Zones
Yep.
More gun control laws, thats what we need.
How about we make it illegal to have a gun in D.C.?
Oh, it already is.
How about making it illegal to have a gun on school property?
Hmm, looks like we've got that covered.
What about making it illegal to shoot someone?
No way, we have laws against that toooo??
Geeze, then how in the world did someone get shot at Roosevelt High School this morning?
Guess all those gun bans really aren't working after all. . .
Football
High School, college, or pro, I am as much a pigskin junkie as the next guy. Still, I can't help but agree with SI writer Mike Silver on the frightening omnipresence of the sport and what it means for the future.
The next thing I know, I'll be in a press box somewhere watching Peyton Manning burn the Seahawks' secondary with his 50th touchdown pass of the season and some scribe will be screaming, "This is the greatest thing I've ever seen in my life!" And then Reggie Wayne will run smack-dab into the goal post, early-'70s style, and collapse -- the ultimate celebration gesture and one I humbly helped convince Clinton Portis to do at the Pro Bowl a few years back -- only he won't be joking, he'll be out cold. And the ref will throw a flag, and Holmgren will applaud vigorously from the sidelines, and somewhere on a beach in the Bahamas, watching on his iPod, Tagliabue will be smiling, as he has just pulled into first place in his fantasy league.
For what its worth, I was tossing around my old Pete Rozelle (link for the benefit of the babies out there) football with a buddy during my son's birthday party this weekend, discussing this phenomena precisly while also pondering the latest Redskin gossip.
Is Jeanna Jackson DeVoe Serious?
This has to be some of the most mealy liberal tripe I've read in years.
Yet, as the mother of two boys who were weaned on PBS and, until recently, never allowed even a water gun, I know children will turn sticks and fingers and Lego blocks into guns and swords. And part of me feels like boys have a natural inclination to play games that involve good guys and bad guys and battles. And this doesn't necessarily mean they're naturally more violent than girls. They just need some way to pretend they are strong and powerful
Lady, let me tell you something. No matter what your idiot liberal sensibilities might demand, they are wrong. Boys/men are indeed naturally more violent than girls/women. Its just a simple fact of nature. You can have all the Alan Alda television specials on men with feelings that you want, but it doesn't change the simple fact that men are predisposed to greater levels of violence than women.
And, for what its worth, when your kid turns into a mass murderer, don't blame the gun . . . blame the weird unnatural thoughts all those years of PBS infected his brain with.

Wal-Mart - That Rascist, Sexist, Behemoth
The nerve of them, to target already depressed low income areas with affordable merchandise and basic household goods.
Who do these people think they are?
The world's biggest retailer, often blamed for driving smaller stores to close, said it would offer business development grants to nearby companies and give them free in-store advertising as part of a new economic development program.
Wal-Mart will also hold seminars for minority and women business owners on how to become Wal-Mart suppliers, as well as seminars for all surrounding small businesses on how to compete in a community with a Wal-Mart.
Of course, any campaign targeting women and minorities is, by design both rascist and sexist. But, thats ok I guess, as long as you discriminate in politically correct ways.
Full Disclosure Marshall Manson emailed me the PR release on this, which included most of the facts as laid out by the Washington Post/Reuters story. However, I didn't use any of his text/or ideas and rather only posted after I saw the piece on the Washington Post web page. And yes, I was intereviewed by that NY Times reporter a few weeks ago. I'll post more on that someday, but refused to disclose my name to him - hence no quote.
Idiots With Guns
And this time, its an OC celebrity, 14 year old Willa Holland, who plays Mishca Barton's bad girl sister Kaitlin Cooper (Not to mention, Brian De Palma's step daughter).
Yep, this is all the fault of the gun makers (Damn you Gaston Glock!!!) and those damn NRA types. Why, if they just would come up with some sort of basic rules of gun safety, people wouldn't do dumb things like this.
Oh wait, they do have gun safety rules?
You mean like, don't let in-mature 14 year olds play with guns? Or, don't drink and play with guns?
How about don't point a gun at someone's head (unless you intend to shoot them?)
Hey, at least she kept her finger off the trigger.

A Google Bomb Bleg
Hey, with the Bigoted-Gun-Banning-Pro-Violent-Rapist Doug Duncan running for Governor of Maryland, I thought we could try to get the word out via a google bomb.
I was wondering if everyone who reads this blog could put up a link to my last post on the Bigoted-Gun-Banning-Pro-Violent-Rapist Doug Duncan. My goal is to manipulate Google and have any search for Doug Duncan's name lead to my post pointing out his support of Rapist Rights over Victim Rights (unless of course, someone can nominate a better post to use).
Its not that I support his opponent, only that I oppose him and his gun banning ways (remember, he's the jerk who ordered the round up of all AR-15s during the sniper episode here in DC 2 years ago).
UPDATE Actually, someone emailed regarding this as an attempt to drive traffic here. It is not. In fact, to prove this, I will be creating a new, seperate blog which simply follows the success of Doug Duncan and his gun banning ways in stopping Crime in suburban Maryland. Look for details shortly!
